Video to MP3 Converter
Extract the audio from any video file on your device and save it as MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC. Nothing is uploaded.
How to convert a video to MP3
Three steps, all in your browser.
1. Choose your videos
Drop one or more videos from your phone, camera or computer: MOV, MP4, WEBM, MKV, M4V or 3GP, up to 2 GB each. They are read on your device.
2. Pick the audio format
MP3 at 192 kbps is chosen for you. Take 320 kbps to keep more detail, or WAV or FLAC for editing.
3. Convert and download
Press Convert. You get one audio file per video, with the video's name and the new extension.
What is inside a video file
A picture track and a sound track
A video file is a container that holds the picture and the sound as separate tracks. Extracting the audio keeps the sound track and drops the picture, so a minute of MP3 at 192 kbps takes about 1.4 MB instead of the video's tens of megabytes.
MOV, MP4, WEBM and MKV
iPhones and most cameras save MOV or MP4, usually with AAC sound. Screen recorders and browsers often save WEBM, whose sound is Opus or Vorbis. MKV can hold almost any codec. All of them can be converted here.
Which audio format to choose
MP3 plays on every phone, car stereo and program. M4A (AAC at 256 kbps) suits iPhones and iTunes. WAV and FLAC keep everything the video's sound track holds, for editing or transcription.
Why people extract audio from video
Find the song playing in a video
Extract the sound of a clip you saved or recorded, then press Identify this song: the audio opens in the AHA Music song finder without choosing the file again.
Keep a concert or a rehearsal as audio
A filmed gig, a band rehearsal or a music lesson becomes an MP3 you can play in the car or on headphones, at a fraction of the video's size.
Lectures, meetings and interviews
Turn a recorded class, a webinar or a video call into audio to listen to on the way, or to send to a transcription service.
Sound for a new edit
Take the sound of a phone video as WAV or FLAC for a video editor, a podcast or a music program.
Video to MP3: frequently asked questions
How the audio is extracted and what you can convert.
How do I convert a video to MP3?
Choose one or more video files above, keep MP3 selected (or pick WAV, M4A or FLAC), press Convert and download the audio. It runs in your browser, so it starts at once, with no upload and no queue.
Can I paste a YouTube or TikTok link?
No, this converter only reads video files from your device. If you want to know which song plays in a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram video, paste the link into the AHA Music video song finder at aha-music.com/url instead.
Which video formats work?
Video files your browser can open, including MOV, MP4, M4V, WEBM, MKV and 3GP, up to 2 GB each. Audio files such as M4A, WAV, OGG and FLAC can be converted too.
Does extracting the audio lower its quality?
The sound can't get better than the track in the video. MP3 at 192 kbps sounds like the original for most videos; 320 kbps keeps the most detail, and WAV or FLAC keep everything without any further loss.
Can I convert a video from my iPhone?
Yes. On the iPhone, choose the video in the file picker (Photos or Files) and the MOV is read straight from the phone. On a computer, drop the MOV file you copied from the phone.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The audio is extracted inside your browser by a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg. Only the audio engine itself (about 31 MB) is downloaded, once. Your videos never leave your device.
Is there a size or length limit?
Each video can be up to 2 GB, and up to 20 videos at a time. MP3 and M4A have no length limit; WAV and FLAC files can be up to 30 minutes long. Long videos take longer on a phone than on a computer.
Is it free?
Yes. It needs no account, adds no watermark and does not limit how many videos you convert.
