How to convert OGG to WAV

Three steps, all in your browser.

1. Choose your OGG or Opus files

Drop one or more .ogg, .oga or .opus files, up to 2 GB each. They are read on your device.

2. Keep WAV selected

WAV is chosen for you: 16-bit PCM at the file's own sample rate. FLAC keeps the same sound at about half the size.

3. Convert and download

Press Convert. Each WAV keeps the original name with the .wav extension.

About the formats

OGG and Opus

OGG is an open container, usually holding Vorbis (music, game sounds) or Opus (WhatsApp, Telegram and Discord voice messages). Many DAWs, samplers, video editors and Windows tools don't import either.

WAV – uncompressed PCM

WAV stores the decoded sound sample by sample, so every program reads it. A minute of 44.1 kHz stereo takes about 10.6 MB. The WAV sounds the same as the OGG; converting can't restore what compression removed.

FLAC, MP3 and M4A

FLAC is lossless like WAV at about half the size. MP3 and M4A are small files for listening. WAV and FLAC files can be up to 30 minutes long.

Why people convert OGG to WAV

Game sounds for a DAW or sampler

Games and apps often ship sounds as OGG. Convert them to WAV to use them in FL Studio, Ableton, a sampler or a sound library.

Voice messages for editing or transcription

Turn a WhatsApp or Telegram voice message into WAV for an audio editor, a podcast or a transcription service that wants WAV.

Video editors and presentations

Premiere, PowerPoint and many video editors import WAV reliably where OGG fails.

OGG to WAV: frequently asked questions

How the converter works and what it can do.

How do I convert OGG to WAV?

Choose one or more OGG or Opus files above, keep WAV selected, press Convert to WAV and download the result. It runs in your browser, with no upload and no queue.

Does it convert Opus to WAV?

Yes. .opus, .ogg and .oga files are all converted to WAV, whether the sound inside is Opus or Vorbis.

What sample rate and bit depth does the WAV have?

16-bit PCM with the same number of channels. Vorbis files keep their sample rate, usually 44.1 kHz; Opus is always decoded at 48 kHz, so WAVs from Opus are 48 kHz.

Does WAV sound better than OGG?

No. The WAV sounds the same as the OGG; what compression left out can't be restored. You get a file every program opens, which you can edit without compressing it again.

Is there a length limit?

Each WAV can be up to 30 minutes long, because the result is held in your browser's memory. Each source file can be up to 2 GB, and up to 20 files at a time.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser with a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg. Only the audio engine (about 31 MB) is downloaded, once; your files never leave your device.

Can I convert OGG to MP3 instead?

Yes. Choose MP3 before converting for a small file that plays everywhere, or use the OGG to MP3 converter, which opens on MP3.

Is it free?

Yes. It needs no account, adds no watermark and does not limit how many files you convert.
